Destroy & Rebuild

Writing about artwork is almost as difficult as trying to interpret it. Many consider the term ‘art’ something that equates to the divine power which can be reminiscent of God. The power to impact one’s mind in seeing the possibilities in our lifespan not previously seen is incredible and can be as important and influential as what one would deem an “epiphany.”

Having heard about Destroy & Rebuild NYC from a mutual friend who had just bought some of their work, I decided to check out their website. Besides being shocked and blown away, the feeling that had the most weight was that of understanding. I felt as if this artwork encompassed an entire niche that hadn’t been explained yet. This is something that’s both Revolutionary and (dare I say) Gangster.

The Brooklyn artist which is the root of Destroy and Rebuild is Avone. He alone has turned the once mundane industrial-esque city landscape into something much more. He did this without an emphatic approach. The natural progression from graffiti artists to street artist stems from their desire to rebuild the city they were once thought to have wanted to destroy.

Many of those who commute to work everyday and go about their lives who witness graffiti see it as a destructive force rather then a progressive imprint on an archaic structure. The art which the Brooklyn res releases now is much more then all of that.
