Lately, things have gone south for our down south heavy-lightweight Lil Boosie. Not only is Boosie plagued by a first degree murder charge, but he is also targeted at ordering 7 other murders. There are even talks that the feds are trying to give Boos the death penalty. Still surrounded by loyalty, his girlfriend and best friend recently got in trouble; one for trying to sneak drugs to Boosie in jail to sell and maintain a better life in the pen, the other for intimidating a witness. People care about Boosie for a reason. Those who grew up in Boosie’s area contest that he gave so much to the hood, despite being surrounded by bad news and hardship day by day. His whole life has been a struggle, his raps powerful and proof of his hardships.
Growing up poor and in an area so neglected that there is not one reason to trust any authority but your own and those whom you know personally. Boosie was forced to be the authority at age 12 when his father was shot and killed. Along the way Boos has lost plenty friends, including his best friend Lil Ivy who was murdered 5 years ago. However, the disaster that Boosie is really bothered about in this song is the fact that his Type 1 diabetes is turning his life into more of a struggle then it already is. When speaking about it, Boosie’s stated:
“I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in January of 2004. My grandmother had it, so I guess it’s hereditary, [but] none of my kids have diabetes. The first couple years, I struggled with it. I was in and out the hospital. I just ain’t wanna face the fact that I really had this shit. I’d go a month without taking my [insulin] shots, so I was just throwin’ up, losin’ weight, all kinds of shit. It was hard.”
“The Rain” Boosie’s most powerful single off of his latest release, “Incarcerated” which dropped not a week ago on Warner Brothers Records has been cycling the internet for a bit, but now it feels as if this ballad will forever tell Boosies hardships to all those who either don’t care and want to just write him off, to those who do care and need more to say to the other half. Free Boosie.
