Lotus – Oil On Water / Feather On Wood

With their latest release, Oil on Water, and Feather on Wood, Lotus comes back with a new collage of post rock, electronic blends, proving they can follow up to the 5 star success of their previous studio album, Hammerstrike.

Just under a year since Hammerstrike, Lotus’s latest takes a looks back at works unfinished all while taking a step forward.  A combination of a studio project that began two years ago, Oil on Water, and Feather on Wood progresses the bands live jam feel while taking their effects and daring electronic even further.

Expanding in all directions, Oil on Water, and Feather on Wood act as a ying and yang to the bands split personality.  Oil on Water pushes the concepts of bands upbeat electronic dance tracks, while Feather On Wood grooves to a easier rhythm more familiar to their live albums.

“The resulting tracks broke down into two distinct groups in our minds, the Oil On Glass tracks are more up tempo and lean on the more electronic side, while Feather On Wood has a more introspective bend, centered around guitar driven, post rock compositions.”

Reevaluating the tracks first conceived over two years, from the studio of the Hammerstrike album, this latest release brings a new mix to tracks resembling their previous work.

“We took those (tracks) and I kind of wanted to make them swirl and swim.”

The track, Marisol offers an introspective note on the album, with long belted guitar slides.  72 hour sounds a bit raunchier guitar effects, though evens it out with clean ride drums.  Vancourver Island will be very familiar to fans of Lotus, with a slow moving strings, interesting twist of electronic effects and a steady tapping of the tambourine.  The ep’s round out with some very worth while remixes of tracks from their previous album, Hammerstike.

Despite its quick release, Oil On Water and Feather On Wood takes no shortcuts and delivers a full and further sounds to expand upon Lotus duel personality.  The album is available for digital download off of iTunes, with CDs and vinyl available at their live shows and at their website http://www.lotusvibes.com/
