Pitchfork Music Festival 2011

Just an eye shot away from Lake Michigan and buried deep in the downtown skyscrapers, Union Park provides the perfect location for Chicago’s must see summer event, the 6th annual Pitchfork Music Festival.  While most festivals are busy filling undesirable time slots on secondhand stages with third rate acts, Pitchfork Festival cuts the fat and delivers the best show for show line up of any festival this year.

Though we’re unlikely to see the return of a comedy stage, or 2009’s “Write the Night: Set Lists by Request”, or 08’s “Don’t Look Back” stage, we will see the return of Pitchfork veterans Animal Collective, Cut Copy, Fleet Foxes, No Age, Deerhunter, Destroyer, HEALTH, and Kurt Vile, proving once again that Pitchfork knows how to please a crowd.  And with still three more months to go before the festival, Pitchfork may have yet to tell all it’s secrets.

In keeping with tradition, 3-day tickets for the festival, selling at 110$ a piece, sold out in just one day.  But no worries all late comers, single day tickets are still on sale for 45$ dollars each (which comes out to a 25$ mark up for buying all three days separately).  Still, this mark up doesn’t seem so bad when faced with having to pick and choose which days to go and which to stay at home wishing you weren’t.  Sunday has the biggest names and the most bands including TV on the Radio, Cut Copy, and Deerhunter; Saturday displays the gravity of this festival with a rare performance by The Dismemberment Plan and the return of Fleet Foxes, while Friday kicks off the festival with groundbreaking, neo-psychedelic band Animal Collective and a reunited Guided By Voices show.  In the end, it seems missing any one of these days will hurt your spirits more than your wallet.

Pitchfork festival runs from July 15-17 in Union Park downtown Chicago.  For more information and to purchase tickets visit, http://www.pitchforkmusicfestival.com/
