Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid

Look out Tesla! Porsche’s 918 Spyder Hybrid, once a concept car, is now green-lit and becoming a reality! Porsche’s first ever plug-in hybrid will be able to go from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. The hybrid is said to get as much as 94 miles per gallon, obviously this won’t be the case when zipping by all the old cars that never made it to cash for clunkers.

The price has a lot of people biting their nails, all this incredible ingenuity must have a high price. Did you see it being as high as $630,000? However, what other sports luxury vehicle is releasing such a bold hybrid? There’s gotta be a prize for being an innovator, for Porsche, the price is a pat on the back and a fat wallet.

President Michael Macht, President and Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG, had this to say about the 918:

Production of the 918 Spyder in a limited series proves that we are taking the right approach with Porsche Intelligent Performance featuring the combination of supreme performance and efficient drivetrain concepts.

The car features four different driving modes, one for each mood; E-Drive, Hybrid, Sport Hybrid and Race Hybrid. For the James Dean’s out there, If you are looking for the high speed mode, you’re looking at switching to Sport Hybrid, and for the Al Gore’s out there – you can completely drive on electricity when in the E-Drive mode. This speedster cover’s all of it’s bases. It’s 3.4L mid-mounted V8, 500-hp engine, coupled with two electric motors that give it an extra 218-hp will have everyone talking about it and listening to it, and maybe even driving it soon. We can’t wait until it’s released.
