This year will mark the 11th year that Summer Camp Music Festival will return to Three Sisters Park in Chillcothe, IL. Looking at this lineup I can just feel that this will be one of this summer’s festivals you won’t want to miss. With 6 stages including late-night shows at a barn venue to the headliners Moe and Umphrey’s Mcgee you are in for an amusing weekend. On top of that you got Widespread Panic, STS9, Girl Talk, Yonder Mountain String Band, Bela Fleck, Bassnectar, Slightly Stoopid, Wiz Khalifa and many many more bringing you the entertainment. They are expecting 15,000 people to attend this year and it is an event for all ages. By all ages I mean they have a Kids Camp with face painting and water sports! One of my friends is actually trying to be a counselor at this camp, help him out he would appreciate it. All you have to do is ‘like’ Summer Camp on Facebook and then scroll down to find Jeff Greenshwag’s video and ‘like’ that.Let’s get to the music! Summer Camp is nothing new for the headliners, who will be performing all three nights. Moe, an amazing jam band that got together in 1989, and Umphrey’s Mcgee, a progressive rock jam band playing from Chicago since 1997, will definitely be a must see for all festival goers.
Personally I’ve seen each of these bands live a few times and their music is nothing short of what a headliner band at a huge festival should be. Moe will rock you with their original songs but also send you in a musical trance with their jams similar to the likes of the Grateful Dead. Umphrey’s Mcgee will blow you away with their unique sound but you might feel like you just saw a Pink Floyd show when all is said and done. There will be one new band this year that I think should steal the show. This being their 26th year making great music together but first time appearing at Summer Camp, I except a huge set from Widespread Panic on Sunday evening. Personally, I believe they haven’t been the same band since their lead guitarists Michael Houser passed away in 2002 but what they are doing now with Jimmy Herring, who played with the Allman Brothers band and The Dead, is absolutely mind-blowing.
Whether you’re going to too enjoy a wonderful weekend outdoors with your family or you’re going to have the time of your life with friends Summer Camp Music Festival is the place to be over Memorial Day Weekend.
