Breaking into the music scene in early 2008 with their self-titled debut album, Vampire Weekend has quickly climbed the music charts and become one of the big breakout bands of 08’. Their take on new-age dance pop has brought a much needed and refreshing sounds to the music scene. Incorporating the globe sounds of African drums, classical strings, and Irish jig, this album creates a truly original sound. Though comparing them to any band would almost be an insult to the originality and creativity of their music, influences can be found from bands like Artic Monkeys and the Talking Heads. No matter what genre of music you like, this band is bound to get you on your feet and clapping, stomping, whatever other sounds you can make. It is clear Vampire Weekend has no restraints on the creativity or style of their music, with such open minds this a band to watch out for. Though the sound and style of their next release is impossible to predict, it is sure to defy to boundaries of genre and conformity. Props for the originality.
