Senna recalls the life of Brazilian Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna, who won the F1 world championship three times before dying at the age of 34. Considered one of the best drivers of all time, Senna’s life was also one of vast importance to his native Brazil. In a time when Brazil was suffering in so many issues, he made sure to pick up a Brazil flag after winning races and flying it from his car before dumping champagne on himself and hoisting a Grand Prix championship trophy. The film also shows the extremely ugly side of politics in Formula One racing. Senna had to deal with extreme prejudice and unjust rulings throughout his career and was pressured to not win the race. His battles with teammate Prost are epic and well highlighted and explained in this documentary. The fact that Senna took gaps and chances was looked down upon by the commission, and because of this – they did everything they could with the emphasis in bringing him down, even taking away one of his championships for a well known bogus ruling This documentary is incredible and sheds life on Senna’s battle with the archaic european system of corrupt politics in racing, as well as showing his extreme passion for what he was doing. Senna was a purist and perfectionist, and above all – a winner. Highly recommended and available on Netflix.
