Incubus – Light Grenades

Starting off as a band that had clearly been heavily influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Incubus decided on their fourth album A Crow Left of the Murder that they were ready to evolve and showcase their own unique sound. Unfortunately, the evolution wasn’t really accepted by their fan base due to the album’s harder sound. Confused, at the crossroads, and ready to continue making music and win back fans, Incubus went to work on their latest album, Light Grenades.

With the album’s first single “Anna Molly” gaining much-deserved attention on music television channels as well as radio stations alike, memories of the success of Incubus’s 2001 release Morning View come to mind. It seems that once again, Incubus is gaining a place in people’s CD cases. After listening to Light Grenades, it’s blatantly apparent that the instrumentals have evolved a great deal. Most of the album features many tightly intertwined psychedelic rock tones that are played until they explode, of course only to regroup soon thereafter; the result being a sharp, clean rock album.

If you happen to be an Incubus fan who somehow lost loyalty, Light Grenades is the perfect album to win you back. Switching melodies frequently in a smooth enticing fashion, yet keeping their distinct originality should have Incubus winning back old fans as well as captivating new ones.
