The two were set to meet Feb. 11 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to start off Showtime’s “Showtime Championship Boxing” series in what was hyped as a ‘due’ rematch, both fighters ready to prove themselves – but that won’t be happening any time soon. Andre Berto injured his left biceps during a sparring session yesterday and because of this, his rematch (chance to prove himself) with former welterweight titleholder Victor Ortiz has been postponed.
However, I doubt there are many tears flowing over this news, as Ortiz’s latest performance looked desperate at best. Remember Ortiz putting it all on the line with a diving header attempt against Mayweather, only to get knocked out moments later? Me too- that was ugly. Berto however has been looking good, and many are convinced this is his fight. Of course, now this all depends on how his biceps heal. We’ll have to wait to see when the match will take place between Andre Berto (28-1, 22 KOs) and Victor Ortiz (29-3-2, 22 KOs).
