The small town of Manchester, Tennessee is home to only about 8,000 people and is only 11 square miles in size. The average day in Manchester is pretty quiet – that is, unless you happen to visit from June 9 through June 12.
This tiny town hosts a massive 4 day music festival called “Bonnaroo” during this time, when almost 100,000 people show up to listen to some of the best and most talented musical artists around. Some of these bands include Eminem, Lil Wayne, the Black Keys, the Strokes, STS9, and 2011 Grammy award winner, Arcade Fire, to name just a few.
Although over 50 different bands play at this festival, this is not all they have, believe it or not! There are a variety of tents on the grounds with a wide range of activities. There is Broo’ers Festival tent, for example, which is an Oktoberfest-like tent where 20 different breweries serve up their best brews, along with a live entertainment act. Another tent is the Splash-a-Roo where concert-goers can cool down and relax with a massive slip-n-slide and an enormous mushroom water fountain.
Considering this is a 4-day, 24-hour festival, some may wonder about the basic amenities of life. For example, where the hell do I sleep if I decide to? Bonnaroo has a plethora of facilities including showers, ATMs, medical stations, food and shopping, and even clean and sober groups. Sleeping arrangements are plentiful since there are onsite camping areas, RV parks, and off-site hotels. No matter when and where you fall asleep, you can find a comfortable spot.
Whether you have been to all nine years of past Bonnaroo concerts, or whether you have yet to attend your first, Bonnaroo is the place to be. You might think you need to be at work or school during June 9-12, but the best idea is to drop whatever you are doing to drive, fly or walk to Tennessee to enjoy this amazing Festival. You are guaranteed to have the time of your life, whether dancing and singing along to your favorite band, sliding on the giant slip-n-slide, or sitting down and enjoying a beer while watching a comedy act!
