We caught up with the Emperor, here’s what he’s got to say:
How long have you been in rapping?
I’ve been rapping on and off ever since Jr High School, but unfortunately for me, the streets got a hold of me back then, so I never really took my talent seriously. I was more into what the streets had to offer until I came to the realization that the lifestyle I was living would never last forever.
It says in your bio you crafted your skill while doing time, what was the biggest reason for that?
I didn’t want to be another young black statistic who would keep coming thru the revolving doors of the prison, I’ve seen so many of my comrades choose to live their lives that way, I knew that doing the same things, would always render the same results, so I chose to spend my time wisely, reading, writing and just preparing myself to come back into the world a new and improve man with a goal to conquer.
Tell us about your writing process when writing a song?
It varies, sometimes I chose the concept ,write the 1st verse for it and make the hook relate according to the content in the verse. I then try to create a build up from the first verse that will eventually lead to the song having an intro , body, and a conclusion. sometimes I create the hook first and just have the verse relate to the content in the chorus, so it definitely varies
What have you learned the most about since getting started?
What I learned the most is that the actually production of making the music is probably the least important aspect of becoming successful in this business, there is an abundant amount of people in this world with exceptional talent, but without a competent marketing and management team with the correct Industry contacts you will go nowhere.
Where did the name Chi come from?
The word ” Chi ” is a chinese word meaning natural energy , or conscience energy, and if you know me, than you know I’m full of energy. my songs possess a chi like no other, my music can take you on an emotional roller coaster from hi energy to low energy. One of the key concepts related to the word chi is harmony, with out good positive chi harmony can not exist between individuals or nations, and if you know me , you know that I bring people together from all walks of life, from the church to the streets, gangsters to the squares, they all can relate to me in one way or another.
Best part of living in in New Jersey?
Best best of living in New Jersey is the fact that I’m 10 minutes away from the greatest city in the world. I’m a workaholic, so I never sleep, no other city in the world would be a better match. We party seven days a week my friend.
What are you currently working on now?
I’m currently finishing up my album for an independent release coming in the 4th or first quarter. The first single off the album is ” Party All The Time”, its actually creating history in my area, there has never been this much support for a record in my area from a local artist, ,so I’m confident we doing something right.Shout out to all the local DJ’s who help create the Buzz, Dj A-One, DJ Sho, Sick A Sound and everybody else. Shout out to my family Ryde Out Records ,Jovonn the Don and Sire of RMG for helping me create a great album. I also have a mixtape dropping soon called ” The Ambassador”, MEAN!!!!
Where do you see yourself in 2 years?
If we continue on the pace we are at now, I can see my whole county ( Rockland County, NY) joining me in creating the greatest movement NYC has ever seen from anything north of the burrows, it’s gonna be epic, watch !!!
