Rothbury Festival

After its premier last summer, the Rothbury festival has gained impressive reputation for being one of America’s best gatherings of music, art, and community. And Rothbury 2009 will be no exception.

Located in the serene landscape of the Sherwood Forest in Rothbury, Michigan, the festival creates an strong connection between people, nature, and self-expression rarely found or even attempted in the music festivals of today, making Rothbury one of a kind.

Not only will they be the host of this summer’s ONLY Grateful Dead performance, along with headlining shows from Bob Dylan and his band but they are also the host of many lesser known, yet equally as a worthy musicians such as Yonder Mountain String Band, Gov’t Mule, G. Love and Special Sauce, Les Claypool, and John Butler just to name a few. Yet, live music is not be the only performance on festival grounds, Rothbury also host many theatrical and performancing arts, including the circus show, a Masquerade Ball, and “an unexpected aerial performance in the tree tops.”

Yet, music is only one of the aspects, which connects and brings together such a grand event. Rothbury is also focused on creating a community and social movement, meaning, YOU, the people are the heart of Rothbury. And to promote a more thoughtful, caring lifestyle Rothbury is getting you involved.

One of their biggest events, the Think Tank, will focus on how you can lead the way to A New Green Economy. The event will feature “various buzz sessions” from leading scientist, scholars, writers, progressive political and youth leaders, Rothbury artist, and of course, you.

Steadying their focus on strengthening communal efforts, events such as the Rothbury Food Drive have been organized to help fill local Michigan food pantries for organizations such as Team Challenges, Word of Life, and Shiloh Food Pantry.

To further encourage the well-being and self-expression of the entire Rothbury community, yoga & meditation sessions will be held all festival long by renowned yoga teachers and Rothbury performers. And to provide even more thought provoking activity, large-scale art will be erected all throughout the Sherwood Forest and Rothbury site.

Yet, to fully experience Rothbury you need to be there. The festival begins July 2 and end comes to a close July 5. No electricity will be provided in the campsite area so pack wisely. Tickets are now on sale.

“Rothbury is committed to harnessing the spirit of the music festival community into a durable social movement. Rothbury is created by people who are passionate about music, and about live music in particular. We are captivated by the unique experience that a perfect live moment offers; when we transcend beyond individuals and into a collective. It’s a connectedness that invites palpable inspiration and a real opportunity to create a lasting change. This is the Rothbury mission.”
