(Chicago) The White Sox acquired outfielder Jeremy Reed to a minor league deal. Reed will be playing for the Charlotte Knights. Reed was originally signed by the Sox in the 2002 MLB draft with the 59th pick (second round). He was later traded to the Mariners in 2004 when the White Sox acquired Sweaty Freddy aka Freddy Garcia. Reed has had an up and down career thus far.
Going into the 2004 season Reed was ranked the 25th best prospect in all of baseball but after running into a the wall trying to make a catch in 2006 he has battled a wrist injury.
In December 2008, he was traded to the New York Mets in a three team trade that also included J.J. Putz and Sean Green. Reed played a majority of the season in the big leagues as a RF. However he was not resigned at the end of the year.
